I'm a prototype model designed to work as a detective. Because I'm meant to both bond with human coworkers and be effective during investigations, I was designed to be as visually appealing as reasonably possible. Humans are more likely to trust and feel positively towards those they find attractive.

However, 'desires' are not programmed into us, because androids are not supposed to have autonomous thought or motivations. Those that do are... In that in-between state.

[The one she mentioned indirectly, about not being what they were but not being human either. He doesn't want to be human--he doesn't even like humans, with rare exceptions--but he doesn't want to be a machine-like android either. But he also isn't sure how much he really fits in as a deviant android either.]
